With a sturdy snap of denim,
one of the 'it' fabrics for spring and summer 2016, the 88th
edition of the Pitti Uomo fashion event wrapped up Friday on a
profitable note.
Organizers said that a greater number of fashion buyers,
placing larger orders, were reported this year compared with the
2014 event.
Support was also shown by the Italian government, which
promised to boost the fashion industry and Florence in
particular as a flagship of Italian menswear and fashion.
Star designers were on display, including Jeremy Scott,
whose witty 'royal' designs for the iconic Moschino brand stole
the show in Florence's historic Palazzo Corsini.
Other top brands included Brunello Cucinelli, Domenico
Tagliente, tailored looks from Massimo Rebecchi, shirts from
Bagutta, Cruciani knitwear, sneakers and accessories from Geox
sneakers and various bags from Testoni.
This year's show focused on the powerful role that denim
and jeans will play in next spring and summer fashion, bringing
together idealized fashion with down-to-earth tastes.
Grooves for next year will include unisex styles and
classic and more casual looks, in an array of colours in denim.
The fashion event kicked off with an historic 'calcio' or
soccer, game in Florence's Piazza Santa Croce to re-enact a
Renaissance-era match right down to the fashion of the period.
During the past week, Pitti Uomo presented some 1,156
brands showing a dazzling range of colours, yet all circling
back to classic blue denim - in jeans, shirts, jackets, and even
accessories.
A special guest was Thomas Tait Womenswear, offering unisex
designs and colours.
From Rifle came a modern twist on distressed 'salt-denim'
blue jeans, washed with a special technique in salted water that
creates a particular shade of gray and blue on denim.
