A 40-year-old man was stabbed to death
in downtown Bergamo on Friday afternoon.
The victim was murdered in the central Via Tiraboschi near City
Hall and Largo Porta Nuova, investigative sources said.
He has been identified as Mamadi Tunkara, a native of Gambia who
was in charge of security at a Carrefour supermarket,
investigative sources said.
Tinkara was cycling to work when he was pushed to the ground and
stabbed to death by his attacker who then fled the scene,
according to preliminary reports.
The investigation is coordinated by prosecutor Silvia Marchina,
together with State attorney Maria Cristina Rota.
Police are searching for the killer who fled on foot.
A friend of the victim was quoted as saying by local newspaper
L'Eco di Bergamo that the victim had been living in Italy for
the past five years with his brother and that he was a Carrefour
employee.
