Italians arriving back in Rome from
Los Angeles Thursday said they had left a "ghostly city" after
wildfires devastated the Californian metropolis and killed five
people.
"I have never seen, in thirty years of frequenting (the city),
such a ghostly Los Angeles", said one of the Italians at
Fiumicino airport.
The Italian eye witnesses said none of them had run direct risks
or experienced situations related to the fires up close, but
they voiced deep concern for what is happening and said they had
been glad to return to Italy as soon as possible.
Some people showed images of the fires, on their cell phones,
taken from along the highways or from hotels.
