Rightwing League party leader, Deputy
Premier and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini said Monday he
hoped the result of the German general election, in which the
far right Alternative for Germany (AfD) doubled its vote to
about 20% would not be "subverted by a stitch-up" between the
Christian Democratic Union, which came top with over 28%, and
the Social Democrats, who came third with their vote falling by
over 9% to 16%.
The two latter parties are expected to form a new but smaller
Grand Coalition government.
Salvini, like other rightwingers including Donald Trump and Elon
Musk, has long praised AfD.
