Centre-left Democratic Party (PD) MEPs
Elisabetta Gualmini and Alessandra Moretti on Tuesday told ANSA
they were innocent of any corruption linked to the Qatargate
case but had decided to suspend themselves from their Socialists
& Democrats group at the European Parliament after Belgian
prosecutors files a request fro their parliamentary immunity to
be dropped.
"We learned from the press the news of the request, by the
Belgian judicial authorities, to revoke our immunity" in the
context of the Qatargate investigation, they told ANSA.
"In order to underline our total extraneousness to any
corruption, we have decided to self-suspend ourselves from the
group to which we belong, the Socialists and Democrats (S&D), to
be fully at the disposal of the judiciary for any investigative
need. "We thank the delegation of PD MEPs for the political and
human solidarity publicly expressed", they added.
