Lorenzo Sonego exited in the first round of the Italian Open Tennis Championships on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old world number 35 from Turin was eliminated by Roman Burruchaga with a score of 6-2, 6-3. The Argentine will now face Khachanov.
"Yes, I wasn't able to express myself as I would have liked, certainly I wasn't able to manage the tension and the desire to do well as I have done other times. I was more exhausted and this kills my tennis". Sonego said.
"I didn't feel well physically, with the right energy, and it can happen during the year that there are moments like this - he added -. We need to work on this too, it means that there is room. Now we look ahead".
And then again: "My opponent was certainly in better shape than me, he is a very solid player, he was coming off two good matches so he was fired up. These players have nothing to lose and are able to come out on top in certain matches".
Sonego then spoke about the disappointment of saying goodbye to Rome so early.
"It's a big one - he concluded - but we need to move forward.
This defeat can teach me a lot if we take it the right way. Now I'll talk about it with my team and we'll think about the doubles that I'll play here in Rome".
