Premier Giorgia Meloni wrote to Pope
Leo XIV after his election Thursday saying with filial affection
that there was a desperate need for peace in the world.
"Holy Father, I offer you my personal congratulations and those
of the Italian Government for your election to the Throne of
Peter", began the letter that Meloni sent to His Holiness Pope
Leo XIV, signing it "with filial affection".
In the letter Meloni stated that "the world is in desperate
need" of peace, which "you, from the Loggia della Benedizioni,
have invoked several times, recalling the incessant and tireless
action carried out by the late Pope Francis".
