Italian and Albanian flags were waved as the Giro d'Italia geared to start from the port city of Durres on Friday.
A festive atmosphere reigned in Durres, where the world's second biggest Grand Tour after the Tour de France was set to begin its three-week course.
At the entrance to the city, two large flags, of Italy and Albania, welcomed all fans of the Giro.
Various sports and artistic activities took place in various squares of Durres, which saw children pedaling, painting and exhibiting their works dedicated to cycling.
Vintage cars and Vespa scooters were exhibited near Piazza Taulantia, the starting point of the Giro.
There were also spaces reserved for culinary tradition, while in the square in front of the town hall, a Fan Zone was also set up where the race can be followed live, during all three days in Albania. Numerous activities are planned by the authorities also Saturday in Tirana and Sunday in Vlora, the two other cities where the last Albanian stages will take place.
The 2025 Giro d'Italia will pay tribute to Pope Francis with the last stage starting from the Vatican, outside the Porta del Perugino gate in St. Peter's Square.
The round Italy cycle race runs from May 9 to June 1.
