Naples on Friday greeted Pope Leo XVI
with his own pizza and a figurine in the famed nativity scenes
along presepe street San Gregorio Romeno in the heart of the old
Spanish Quarter.
A 'special' margherita pizza and a terracotta figurine with the
likeness of Pope Leo XIV, from Spaccanapoli to San Gregorio
Armeno, pizza chefs and nativity scene artisans have decided to
celebrate, in record time, the election of Cardinal Robert
Francis Prevost as pontiff.
"I appreciated his first speech focused on peace - Ciro Messere,
owner of the pizzeria that today served his customers pizzas
with the writing, made of mozzarella, "Pope Leo" - told ANSA -
and I hope he continues on the path indicated by Francis
especially with regards to attention to the least of the world".
"I worked all night on the figurine - reveals Genny Di Virgilio,
craftsman of the Neapolitan nativity scene - basing myself on
one of the photos taken yesterday where the Pope, the American,
smiles and greets the faithful".
