Italy's grass-root unions on Monday
called a 24-hour local transport strike for Wednesday.
On Wednesday, they said, there will be a 24-hour nationwide
strike on public transport such as buses, trams and metro.
It was proclaimed by the grassroots unions Cobas Lavoro Privato,
Cub Trasporti, Usb, Adl, Sgb, Associazioni lavoratori Cobas and
Orsa.
"Wages, safety and rights", they said, are the watchwords behind
the industrial action.
During the strike, they added, serviced will be guaranteed
during the legally enforced time bands: from the start of the
day's service to 8.29 a.m., and from 5 p.m. to 7.59 p.m.
