The government aims to make helmets
compulsory for the users of e-scooters, Deputy Sustainable
Mobility and Infrastructure Minister Galeazzo Bignami told an
automotive industry forum in Milan Tuesday.
"Those who use scooters, even in sharing, will have to use
helmets", said Bignami at the #FORUMAutomotive event underway
in Milan, discussing possible changes to the Highway Code.
"There are talks with companies and we are firm on the need to
make personal protective equipment available to those who use
micro-mobility vehicles," said Bignami.
"We are aware of the difficulties, but saving even one life, or
averting one serious accident, would already repay the effort."
Bignami also said trainee drivers should be required to have at
least 12 hours of practice before sitting their driving test,
against the 20 hours in many European countries, stressing the
need to "invest in training and insert a new 'perceived danger'
test".
