The northern city of Trento topped an
Istat and EU ranking of Italian cities according to their
quality of life while the Puglia city of Taranto, blighted by
the polluting ex-ILVA steelworks, was last in the rankings.
The survey said Italians "generally live very well in their
cities, with peaks of satisfaction polarised between North and
South."
It said that for some services such as health and transport,
Italian citizens are not all that happy, especially in the
South.
The 'Quality of life in European cities' survey was conducted by
the European Commission with the contribution of Istat.
