A posthumous book by left-wing
novelist, playwright and journalist Michela Murgia, who died at
the age of 51 after a moving and public battle against cancer
last August, will come out on January 9 collecting her thoughts
during the last period of her life, publishers said Tuesday.
The pamphlet, 'Dare la vita' (Giving Life), edited by fellow
writer Alessandro Giammei, will hit Italian bookshops for
Rizzoli and is "among the most eagerly awaited titles of 2024",
the top publisher said.
Delivered before Murgiaìs death on 10 August, it is "a touching
book, about family. It was only supposed to be about surrogacy,
but has become a deeper book on the meaning of parenthood,"
Giammei, editor of Michela's work and a member of her extended
family, told ANSA the day after the writer's death.
Left-wing campaigning issues like surrogacy, which the
right-wing government plans to outlaw as a "universal crime"
outside Italy after its prohibition at home, were always a
prominent feature of Murgia's personal and professional life.
