On Saturday 8 March, the second special edition of the 'Classicissima Milano Sanremo', an amateur version of one of the most emblematic competitions of Italian cycling, will take place in the Mexican state of Guanajuato.
The event, organised by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico (Ccim), is being held in coordination with the Italian Embassy, the municipality of San Miguel de Allende, the Guanajuato State Sports Commission, and the decentralised public television station of the Guanajuato government, TVCuatro.
Under an agreement signed with RCS Sport, the company that holds the rights to two major Italian cycling competitions - the Milano-Sanremo and the Giro d'Italia - the 'Classicissima' will be held for the second time with amateur participants on Mexican soil.
More than 1,000 competitors from various Latin American states are expected to participate, each of whom will compete in one of the three races planned for the 2025 edition: Gran Fondo (250 km), Medio Fondo (148 km) and Ruta Corta (76 km).
"The race will start from the central square of San Miguel de Allende and the arrival, at the end of each of the planned circuits, will be in Viñedo San Lucas, where an event for two thousand people will be organised, where participants, together with friends and relatives, will be able to enjoy the best of Italian gastronomy and conviviality," Lorenzo Vianello, president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Mexico, told ANSA.
As part of the event, the Italian Embassy will present the 'L'Italia è bici' exhibition, a space dedicated to the promotion of cycling in the Bel Paese.
