The Udine City Council on Monday
rejected a proposal to grant citizenship to AC Milan goalkeeper
Mike Maignan, who was offended with racist insults during the
match against Udinese at the Friuli Stadium on 20 January.
The votes of the majority alone were not enough to pass the
proposal, but three quarters of the councillors' votes were
needed.
Instead, the centre-right minority voted compactly against the
proposal by the mayor Alberto Felice De Toni, who heads a
centre-left administration.
Milan's France keeper endured monkey chants in the match, a 3-2
win for the Rossoneri. The chants were called abominable by
Italian and world soccer bodies.
