On Sunday 13 April, the Italian Ambassador to Chile, Valeria Biagiotti, took part in the award ceremony of the 22nd edition of the Enel Cup, a youth football tournament organised by Enel Chile at the Enel Stadium in Santiago.
A weekend dedicated to energy and sport, which saw the participation of 32 teams of girls and boys, representing 16 municipalities in the Enel Distribución concession area.
The event had as its official ambassador and guest of honour Iván Zamorano, historic captain of the Chilean national team and former striker for prestigious European clubs such as Real Madrid and Inter, with whom he won the UEFA Cup in 1998.
Since its inception in 2002, the Enel Cup has accompanied the sporting development of more than 100,000 young people. "That this tournament has existed for more than two decades testifies to its relevance for the community. Initiated as a project to improve the lighting of various sports areas in the municipalities served by Enel Distribución, today it also responds to the desire of boys and girls who eagerly await it, as for many it represents a springboard towards a professional career. For us, it is a source of pride, as it also contributes to personal growth, through the values and importance of sport," said Giuseppe Turchiarelli, CEO of Enel Chile.
"The Enel Cup fits perfectly into the priorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, which in 2024 launched the Review dedicated to Italian Sport in the world. An initiative that promotes sport as a tool for dialogue, inclusion, and the dissemination of Italian values, and that we are pleased to carry forward here in Chile as well, thanks to the contribution of businesses and the many players of the Sistema Paese," Ambassador Biagiotti said in her inaugural speech, recalling that "this initiative is not only an example of sports promotion. It is also a concrete testimony of Enel's closeness to the communities in which it operates. Doing it through young people makes this commitment even more precious".
The winners of the Enel Cup 2025 will have a unique experience in June, spending a day with Iván Zamorano, who will accompany them as they prepare for and watch the match between the Chilean and Argentine national teams, valid for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
