The Ambassador of Italy, Roberto Natali, on the occasion of an event in residence in Nairobi, in the presence of some Italian parliamentarians on a mission to Kenya, presented the honour of Cavaliere della Stella d'Italia for 2025 to the Kenyan doctor Washington Njogu, director of health services at the Neema Ruaraka Hospital in Nairobi, created and managed by the Italian NGO 'World Friends'.
Njogu graduated in medicine in Perugia thanks to an Italian scholarship and has been working since 1999 in the hospital known for its assistance to the poorest and most needy in the Kenyan capital. "Long counted among the Embassy's reference doctors, Dr Njogu has been able to distinguish himself for the dedication and professionalism with which he works at Neema Hospital. His intense and constant commitment has taken the form of a daily activity aimed not only at medical care, but also at the human support of patients, making him an essential resource for a large segment of the local population, which is often deprived of access to adequate care'.
This is how Natali justified the title, conferred by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, at the proposal of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, adding that Njogu "thanks to his knowledge of the Italian language and culture, matured through academic and professional experiences, has also become over the years a privileged interlocutor for his compatriots living in the Capital".
