The opening day of Go!2025, Feb.
8, was structured in three parts. It will begin with the "From Station to Station" event: a cross-border procession with 1,500 performers, bands, and folk groups will start at 10 a.m. from the Gorizia airport. Organizers have given priority to local groups, associations, schools to emphasize the festive aspect with roots in the regional and cross-border area. In Victory Square with young artists from Fvg, such as Shari, Tish and Pierpaolo Foti, there will be musical and choreographic associations until the evening. A joint performance of the Italian and Slovenian police bands is also planned - the first time ever that two bands of the police forces of two countries perform together - Then the mayors of the territory will parade.
At 11:15 a.m. in Victory Square, the mayors of Nova Gorica, Samo Turel, and Gorizia, Rodolfo Ziberna, will speak; the bells of all Gorizia's churches will ring. At 1:15 p.m. parade from Piazza Vittoria to the San Gabriele Street crossing: athletes, students and artists will give an evocative performance, the Walking Sculpture, featuring Michelangelo Pistoletto's Sphere.
At 2 p.m., the procession will cross the St. Gabriel Street crossing and enter Nova Gorica along Erjavceva ulica (Erjavceva Street) and Rusjan Square to Bevk Square, where 900 artists will perform. The official opening ceremony with the presidents of the two countries will be at 4 p.m. in Transalpina Square, the square shared by the two cities and a symbol of the European Capital. At 6 p.m. art show in Nova Gorica at Edvard Kardelj Square preview of the main projects of the official program approved by the European Commission, curated by director Neda Rusjan Bric. In Victory Square a scenic illumination of Gorizia Castle will be the backdrop for music by Remo Anzovino and the 40 Fingers. At 8:30 p.m. in Transalpina Square cross-border party with DJ sets by Daddy G (Massive Attack) and Andy Smith (Portishead). The ceremony will also be screened live at Victory Square and Bevk. The date of Feb. 8 was chosen because it is symbolic: it is Slovenian Culture Day, commemorating the passing of Slovenian poet France Preseren (Feb. 8, 1849) and with the birth of Giuseppe Ungaretti (Feb. 8, 1888).
