Talks are ongoing between the Italian
government and US authorities on the case of Cecilia Sala, the
Italian journalist detained in Iran, well-informed sources said
on Friday.
Discussions and exchanges of information, at multiple levels,
have also occurred on Thursday, when a government summit was
held at the premier's office in Palazzo Chigi on the case of the
Italian reporter, the sources explained.
Over the past few days, Tehran had suggested a prisoner exchange
with Cecilia Sala, asking for the return home of Mohammed
Abedini, a 38-year-old Iranian engineer who was arrested at
Milan's Malpensa airport on December 16, three days before
Sala's arrest, under an international arrest warrant issued by
US authorities.
