The government told magistrates union
ANM Wednesday that it wants to approve a reform of the judiciary
to separate the career paths of judges and prosecutors as
quickly as possible, a note from Premier Giorgia Meloni's office
said.
"The Government reiterated its desire to continue with
determination and speed in the implementation of the
constitutional reform, hoping for its approval quickly", said
the note from Palazzo Chigi after the meeting between the
executive and ANM chaired by Meloni, which was attended by
Deputy Prime Ministers Antonio Tajani and Matteo Salvini,
Justice Minister Carlo Nordio and Cabinet Secretary Alfredo
Mantovano.
"At the center of the frank and fruitful meeting, (was) the
constitutional reform on the separation of careers and the CSM
under consideration by Parliament", explained the note.
The reform would stop judges and prosecutors switching roles.
Magistrates have said the government wants to bring prosecutors
under executive control.
The government denies this.
