New Pope Leo XIV on Thursday thanked
his predecessor Francis and asked the faithful in St Peter's
Square and beyond to help him build bridges.
"Help us too to build bridges with dialogue and encounter, to be
one people, to be at peace," said the former Cardinal Robert
Prevost, the first North American pontiff and 267th leader of
the Catholic Church.
"Thank you Pope Francis," he said to loud applause by the over
100,000 people in the square.
