From the moment of the white smoke, in
just under an hour, over 150,000 people filled the St. Peter's
area, the Vatican said after the election of Chicago-born
Cardinal Robert Prevost as Pope Leo XIV.
The security device was remodulated with an increase in
contingents of law enforcement at the height of the filter
checkpoints. Other 'peripheral' checkpoints were set up in
sight, in particular at the height of the intersection between
Piazza Risorgimento and Borgo Angelico to stagger the entrances.
