Danish sprinter Mads Pedersen
(Lidl-Trek) won the first stage of the Giro d'Italia 2025, the
160-kilometer race from the port city of Durres to the capital
Tirana in Albania.
The Dane thus grabbed the first pink jersey of the 108th edition
of the round Italy cycle race, the world's second biggest Grand
Tour after the Tour de France.
Pedersen won in a sprint finish.
He beat Wout Van Aert, second at the finish line, and Orluis
Aular, third.
The best of the Italians was Francesco Busatto, fourth, while
Diego Ulissi came sixth.
A few kilometers from the finish line, the Basque Mikel Landa
(Soudal-Quickstep) fell, and was forced to retire immediately
due to a suspected broken collarbone, being taken away in an
ambulance.
