An event was held in Buenos Aires, at the residence of the Italian Ambassador to Argentina, Fabrizio Lucentini, to present and raise funds for the creation of the Museum of Italian Immigration in Argentina.
The initiative, promoted by Com.It.Es. and the Federation of Italian Institutions of the Buenos Aires district (Fediba), received the support of the government of the city of Buenos Aires, which granted permission to use the land for the construction of the Museum at the end of 2023, in the presence of Ambassador Lucentini and the Consul General of Italy in Buenos Aires, Carmelo Barbera, underlining the importance of the project as a significant step in strengthening the deep historical, cultural and human ties between Italy and Argentina. The event, reads a note, was attended by important Italian and Italo-Argentine companies present in the country, interested in learning more about the project.
The museum will be the first of its kind outside Italy and will be inspired by the 'National Museum of Italian Emigration' located in Genoa.
With a planned area of 1,700 square metres, it will combine cutting-edge technology and innovative storytelling, with the aim of telling the story of Italian immigration, highlighting its importance and serving as a source of inspiration for the younger generations.
The museum will be located in front of the Jorge Newbery International Airport, together with the emblematic Carrara marble monument to Christopher Columbus, created by the artist Arnaldo Zocchi and donated by the Italian community to Argentina at the beginning of the 20th century. The project intends to pay tribute to the Italian immigrants who have contributed in a fundamental way to the country's development, honour their legacy, think about the current challenges and promote a space for reflection and cultural exchange aimed at the future.
